How to Install Outdoor Lighted Signs

There are two different ways that you can use when installing an outdoor lighted sign. The first and most convenient is to hire a contractor that will build and install the whole unit for you. The only problem with this is that it is quite expensive and not all of us have the money in the budget to do this. The second option is to do it yourself. This is going to be the better option because it is affordable and it is not difficult to do.

The first thing that you want to do is know where the sign should be placed. You want to be able to run electricity to it – which means that it must be near some type of outlet. Turn off the electrical power running to the area so that you won’t injure yourself when working with the wiring.

Measure the ends of the raceway to know where the middle is going to be. The majority of signs will be made with a steel frame. Hold this mount to the wall and mark where the fastener holes will be. You want to be as accurate as possible so that you don’t drill a number of holes.

Build an outlet behind the wall (if none exists). Mark the area of the cable to where the power source on the raceway will be. Measure the location and draw a circle on the wall. This will be the area where you will drill through the wall and how your power cable will be able to get to the outlet. Drill a hole that is going to be around five eighths of an inch in diameter through the mark you made. Remove any debris left behind before moving on.

Run the power cable through the wall and plug one end into the outdoor lighted signage. Have someone hold the sign for you when you do this. When you have done this you can bolt it to the wall. Secure the sign using thru bolts for thick wood and toggle bolts for thin wood.
